Local Little League baseball teams advance to state tournaments after winning District 12 championships

Area little league baseball teams faced off this past weekend in the District 12 tournament finals, with a chance to advance and compete for state honors.

lsj-fb-logoIn the Majors Division final (ages 11 and 12), Roosevelt Park beat Oakridge 11-7 as Ryan Gillings hit three home runs and posted the win on the mound.

Roosevelt Park moves on to the state tournament Saturday through Thursday in Harper Woods, with a chance to qualify for regionals in Indianapolis.

Oakridge topped Roosevelt Park 6-4 in the Minors Division final (ages 9 and 10) and qualified for the state tourney in St. Claire, which runs Friday through Wednesday.

In the Junior Division  (ages 13-14), White Lake topped Morley-Stanwood 13-1 last Monday and moved on to sectionals and beat Georgetown 7-6 on Saturday. Luke Marsh pitched five no-hit innings against Georgetown and struck out six. White Lake heads all the way up to Escanaba for the state tournament, which runs Thursday through Sunday.
