Ian Kinsler and Anthony Gose each hit a home run for Detroit.
Detroit starting pitcher Matt Boyd took the loss, allowing five runs on seven hits in six innings.
The Tigers will look to even the series against the Blue Jays with a win on Saturday afternoon.
