The Fruitport soccer team shook off a rusty first half and claimed a 3-1 victory over Coopersville Monday in non-league action.
The Trojans (3-0) took a 1-0 lead with a goal by Jonah Kruger, then Coopersville tied the score late in the first half with a goal following a corner kick.
Fruitport took the lead for good with a goal less than a minute into the second half. Lucas Leslie deflected a corner kick into the net, with an assist from Eli Flores.
Zack Shane finished off the scoring for the Trojans with about 10 minutes left in the game.
Fruitport’s Logan Fielding was credited with strong midfield play while Luke Smith and Jared Cloutier stood out on defense. Connor Werschem got the victory in goal.
