Muskegon Community College used an early offensive start and kept it up in its 6-0 men’s soccer win over Lakeland Community College on Sunday.

Emmitt Mikkelson opened scoring for the Jayhawks off an assist from midfielder Brandon Edwards. Two minutes later Edgar Alvarez struck on a nifty cut back move. Jared Jaekel posted the assist on the play.

Hector Chavez scored his first goal of the season off Jake Rajewski and Miguel Flores assists. Cody Loss also put in his first tally of the season just one minute before halftime for a 4-0 lead.

Edwards put MCC up 5-0 off a penalty kick and Alvarez completed the Jayhawk offensive barrage with his second goal of the contest off an Alex Rop assist.

Freshman goalies Hayden Collins and Ben Fales combined for the shutout in goal as MCC improves to 2-1 on the season.
