The Big Reds played like a team that’s determined to return to Ford Field for the fourth year in a row with a surprisingly easy 40-14 victory over Traverse City Central on Friday in a game played at Thirlby Field in  Traverse  City.Sport clips 2015 football sponsor logo

Muskegon, now 8-2, will meet O-K Black Conference rival Mona Shores next weekend in a rematch of a great game won by the Sailors earlier this month.

Traverse City finished the season 9-1.

Muskegon opened up a 17-0 halftime lead, then sealed the victory with six points in the third quarter and 17 in the fourth. Traverse City scored both of its touchdowns in the final quarter.

Junior quarterback Kalil Pimpleton had a big night, completing 11 of 18 passes for 150 yards and one touchdown and rushing 14 times for 116 yards and one touchdown.

PP Copeland added 74 yards rushing with a touchdown, Jared Pittman ran for 62 yard and one touchdown while Jacorey Sullivan snagged four passes for 52 yards and a touchdown.

Running back Ernest Lyons had the other touchdown for Muskegon while placekicker Demetrio Lopez kicked field goals of 34 and 21 yards.

The Big Red defense came up huge by limiting Traverse City to 48 yards rushing. Keyonte Carpenter led the way with 13 tackles, Shon Head added 10 and Anthony Melton Jr. had six. The Muskegon defense combined for seven sacks.
