Flames 3, Red Wings 2 (OT) –Mark Giordano’s overtime goal with 1:48 left led the Calgary Flames over the Red Wings on Friday night.
Tonight’s game was the first 3-on-3 overtime game for the Red Wings.
The Red Wings jumped out to a 2-1 lead after the first period with goals from Gustav Nyquist and Brendan Smith.
The Flames tied the game 2-2 and forced overtime with 1:12 left in regulation with a goal from Joe Colborne.
Giordano scored the game-winning overtime goal with just under two minutes left.
The Red Wings are 3-3-1 on the season, good for seven points and a fourth-place tie in the Atlantic Division.
Detroit’s goaltender Jimmy Howard stopped 37-of-40 shots in a losing effort.
The Red Wings will finished their Western Canada trip on Saturday night against the Vancouver Canucks.
