Montague volleyball team takes second-place at Shelby Invitational; Holton wins two matches

LSJ Logo incertThe Montague volleyball team lost to the host Shelby 2-1 in its invitational on Saturday.

The Wildcats defeated Newaygo, North Muskegon, and Holton 2-0 in pool play and tied their match 1-1 with Hesperia.

Montague beat Ludington 2-0 in the semifinals before losing in the finals.

Emma Flagstead led the Wildcats with 61 kills, while Sierra Armstrong had 51 digs and Summer Garwood chipped in with 113 assists.

Holton won two of its four matches, beating Orchard View and Mason County Central 2-0 and losing to Shelby and Montague 2-0.

Mikaela Baker led the Red Devils with 14 aces and 10 digs, while Karlee Bates had 15 kills and Shelby Younts added 36 assists.

Holton is now 10-14-1 on season and 3-4 in league play.
