The Spartans advance to next weekend’s second round where they will face the winner of Saturday’s game between Traverse City St. Francis and Maple City Glen Lake.

Tyndall finished the game with nine rushes for 187 yards. He also scored on a 48-yard touchdown run.

Lake City was led by sophomore quarterback Cade Peterson, who passed for 238 yards. Many of those yards, however, came after the outcome had been decided.

Mason County Central wasn’t just the Travis Tyndall show. Spencer Knizacky passed for 53 yards and a touchdown, Cody Soberalski had a 29-yard touchdown reception and added 14 rushes for 138 yards. Knizacky also rushed for 92 yards on 12 carries.

The Spartans had 408 total yards on the ground.

On defense, the Spartans were solid despite the fact Peterson surpassed the 200-yard mark in passing. Blake Bladzik and Austin McDougall each had 11 tackles for MCC. John Zoscsak finished with two sacks and Evan Robison was credited with putting heavy pressure on Peterson.

Spartan kicker Dylan Hearns was perfect on six extra points.
