The Mona Shores girls golf team advanced to the state finals by placing third at the Division 2 regional on Wednesday at The Golf Club at Thornapple Pointe in Grand Rapids.LSJ Logo incert

The Sailors shot a 363 team score and finished four strokes behind regional champion Forest Hills Northern.

Forest Hills Central placed second with a 360 score and also advanced to the Division 2 state finals, which will be played Oct. 16-17 at Bedford Valley Golf Club in Battle Creek.

Reeths-Puffer just missed out qualifying for the state finals as they placed fourth with a 364 team score.

The Sailors were led by Darian Smith (85), who was fourth overall and Andrea Majeski (87), who placed fifth.

Kendall McKinley (90), Maddie Sewick (101) and Kennedy Potts (112) rounded out the scores for the Sailors.

Reeths-Puffer’s Karina VanDuinen took home medalist honors and qualified as an individual for the state finals after firing a 71.

R-P’s Karlee Hallberg also qualified as individual after carding an 89.

Avery Howard (95), Haley Fox (109) and Emma Veihl (143) rounded out the scores for the Rockets.
