The Muskegon Lumberjacks are becoming Chicago Steel fans.

The second one came on Friday night in a 3-2 overtime victory at Fox Valley Ice Arena in Geneva, Illinois.

The Lumberjacks are now 3-6 on the season, good for six points and ninth place in the USHL’s Eastern Conference, one point behind eighth place Chicago.

Rem Pitlick was the Lumberjacks’ hero, scoring two goals, including the overtime winner 5:30 into the extra stanza.

The Lumberjacks opened the scoring at the 18:20 mark of the first period with a goal from Matej Paulovic. Derek Daschke and Robbie DeMontis picked up assists on the tally.

The Steel tied the game at 1-1 at 3:26 of the second period on a short-handed goal from Karch Bachman.

Pitlick broke the tie 1:19 into the third period with a goal assisted by Collin Adams and Chris Klack.

Chicago’s Jake Nielsen tied the game at 2-2 with a goal about seven minutes later.

Regulation ended with a 2-2 tie.

The Lumberjacks scored the game-winning goal with 1:30 left in the extra session on the goal from Pitlick. Paulovic and Trevor Hamilton had assists on the winner.

Muskegon goalie Joey Daccord got the win, stopping 20 of 22 shots.

Muskegon will continue its road trip with a game on Saturday night against the Bloomington Thunder at 8 p.m.
