Sophie Mariani’s basket in the final seconds of the game gave the Grand Haven girls basketball team a 57-56 victory over neighborhood rival Spring Lake on Friday.

The victory ended a three-game losing streak for Grand Haven (3-3) and gave Spring Lake (4-1) its first loss of the season.

It was the first meeting between the two girls teams since 1998.

The Bucs trailed 16-11 after one quarter and 30-29 at halftime, but used a 17-12 third quarter advantage to gain an edge in the game.

Leading the way for Grand Haven was Alli Keyser with 18 points while Lynn Olthof added 15.

Spring Lake was led by Remi French and Reiko Johnson, who scored 18 and 16 points, respectively.
