Capitals 3, Red Wings 2 (SO) – The Washington Capitals outscored the Red Wings 2-0 in the shootout to earn the victory on Tuesday night.
The Red Wings continued their point streak, earning at least a point in the standings in each of the last 11 contests.
Henrik Zetterberg and Tomas Jurco each scored a goal for the Red Wings.
Detroit goaltender Jimmy Howard took the shootout loss. He stopped 38 of 40 shots during regulation and overtime.
The Red Wings are now 15-8-5 on the season, good for 35 points and a second place tie in the Atlantic Division.
Detroit will head back home to host the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday night.
