Girls hoops roundup: Mona Shores stays unbeaten with a win in Detroit; Fruitport, Oakridge and Hart all prevail

The Mona Shores girl’s basketball team used a nine-point third quarter advantage to pick up a 56-47 victory over Williamston on Tuesday in the 21st Annual Motor City Roundball Classic in Detroit.LSJ Logo incert

The Sailors improved to 5-0 on the season.

Jordan Walker led the Sailors (5-0) with 22 points and nine rebounds while Alyza Winston added 18 points.

FRUITPORT 39, WESTERN MICHIGAN CHRISTIAN 31 – The Trojans used a strong defensive effort to earn a hard fought non-conference victory. In a game that was close throughout, the Warriors (5-2) were unable to make free throws down the stretch which allowed the Trojans (4-2) to hold on to their lead. Iyana Brown led the Trojans with 12 points while Katie Veihl added 10 points. Aubrey Goorman paced the Warriors with 10 points.

OAKRIDGE 60, ORCHARD VIEW 19 – The Eagles held the Orchard View offense to three points in both the second and third quarters in a non-conference victory. Hannah Reinhold led the Eagles (6-2, 4-0) with 15 points while Janaya Ferrell paced the Cardinals (0-6, 0-2) with 10 points.

HART 50, HOLTON 39 – The Pirates used a 32-23 second-half advantage to pull away for a victory in the Walkerville Winter Showcase. Baylee Draper led Hart with 26 points, 20 rebounds and six steals.
