The Muskegon Community College mens basketball team has been hot all season, but a few losses will be inevitable along the way.LSJ Logo incert

That occurred on Wednesday when the Jayhawks dropped a 101-80 decision to Owens Community College.

MCC, which begins conference play Monday at Kalamazoo Community College, dropped to 10-2 on the season.

Owens led by as many as 16 points in the first half before the Jayhawks closed their deficit to 50-42 at halftime. But cold shooting doomed MCC in the second half and Owens pulled away.

“You’re not going to win many games shooting the ball as bad we did tonight.,” said MCC Coach Dave Schlump. “I thought we allowed ourselves to get frustrated too early and too easily and we were just never able to recover from it. Give Owens all the credit in the world. They were the better team from start to finish tonight.”

Blake Andrews led the Jayhawks with 16 points. Terrance Cosby added 11 points and grabbed a career-high 17 rebounds.
