The Mona Shores girls basketball team experienced its first loss of the season Wednesday, 67-52 to Midland Dow, in the 21st annual Motor City Roundball Classic in Detroit.
The Sailors, now 5-1, kept pace with the powerful Dow squad for three quarters. They led 14-13 after one quarter, trailed 30-26 at halftime and led 43-42 at the third buzzer.
But Dow took control down the stretch, outscoring Mona Shores 25-9 in the fourth quarter.
The Sailors were led by freshman Alyza Winston with 17 points, two steals, two assists and one block. Jordan Walker added 14 points, eight rebounds, three steals and two assists. Ellie Taylor scored a game-h9gh 27 points for Midland Dow.
