Nate Dugener hit a 3-pointer as time ran out on Tuesday, giving Western Michigan Christian a 52-49 victory over Holland Christian before an excited home crowd.

lsj-fb-logoThe Warriors, now 4-4, had the ball out of bounds with five seconds left and the score tied 49-49. They got the ball in, but the play broke down and WMC had to improvise.

DaMonta Bartee swung the ball to Dugener, who had just enough space to release before the buzzer.

Dugener’s game-winning 3-pointer gave him 26 points on the night. Bartee finished with 12 points of his own.

“We’ve been off for a week and we were coming off a bad week, so it was nice to come out a get a win against a good team,” said WMC Coach Kyle Mastenbrook. “We played well. We played together. The ball moved well tonight. Nate benefitted a lot from our great ball movement.”

The Warriors never relinquished their lead in the game, though the Maroons were able to tie the score twice late in the fourth quarter. The Maroons (2-5) hit three triples down the stretch as well as three free throws to keep the game close.

Holland Christian’s Tyler Hyma finished the night with 13 points.
