Muskegon Community College men’s basketball team used the play of Marcus Tumblin and Will Roberson Jr. to top Kalamazoo Valley Community College 75-71 on Saturday. lsj-fb-logo

The Jayhawks held a 31-29 half time lead that was built off of Tumblin’s 17 first-half points. Eight of Tumblin’s points included back-to-back four point plays that put MCC up 30-23 with two minutes left in the half.

MCC went on a 30-11 run that started early in the second half and was backed by Roberson who scored 14 of his 16 points in the half.

Despite KVCC falling behind 69-48 with four minutes left to play, guard Jeremy Williamson was not ready to quit. Williamson propelled his Cougars back to trail 73-71 with 10 seconds left on three 3-pointers in the last minute.

But Tumblin and Eddie Tornes free throws down the stretch sealed the win for MCC which shot 24 for 31 from the free throw line in the game.

Tublin finished with a team-high 21 points and had eight rebounds, Aaron Sydnor scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and Mike Williams had 10 points and 12 rebounds for MCC.

Tornes finished with eight points, five assists and six rebounds for the Jayhawks.

Williamson tallied 28 points that included eight 3-pointers for KVCC.
