The Montague boys basketball team trailed at the end of the first three quarters, then used a fourth-quarter burst to squeak past Ravenna 56-54 Tuesday in West Michigan Conference action.LSJ Logo incert

The Wildcats, who trailed 15-14 after one quarter, 37-33 at halftime and 44-40 after three quarters, used a 16-10 burst in the final quarter to steal the win.

Ravenna had a chance to steal the victory at the end when Montague missed the front end of a one-and-one free throw opportunity with six seconds left. The Bulldogs called time out and set up a final play, but a 3-point attempt just missed the mark as time expired

“I am proud of how our team continued to battle and stay in the game even though we didn’t play our best at times,” said Montague coach Dave Osborne. “I give Ravenna a lot of credit for a very well played game.”

Montague was led by Jacob Buchberger with 19 points, while Ravenna was led by Nick Castenholz with 18 points. David Thompson added 17 points for the Bulldogs.

NORTH MUSKEGON 59, MASON COUNTY CENTRAL 50Riley Fairfield scored 14 fourth-quarter points to lead the Norse to a comeback victory. The Norse, who trailed for three quarters, outscored the Spartans by 11 points in the fourth to ice the win. They improved to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the league. Fairfield finished with 33 points and eight rebounds. Mitch Lang and Blake Bladzik scored 11 points apiece for the Spartans (3-2, 1-2).

OAKRIDGE 74, HART 45 – The Eagles (5-2, 2-1) jumped out to a 28-6 lead after the first quarter and cruised to the victory. James Cooper III led the Eagles with 18 points while Brady Luttrull and Jaegar Beattie added 11 points. The Pirates were led by Garrett Eisenlohr with 24 points.
