McEvoy scores four goals as Reeths-Puffer pounds Petoskey in hockey regionals

Connor McEvoy netted a hat trick in the third period and finished with four goals and a pair of assists in Reeths-Puffer’s 9-2 win overLSJ Logo incert Petoskey in a Division 2 hockey regional opener on Monday.

The Rockets jumped out to a 3-0 advantage in the first period and led 5-2 heading into the final 20 minutes of action.

Reeths-Puffer outshot Petoskey 41-29. Rocket goalie Wil Mierz got the victory with 27 saves.

Also leading Reeths-Puffer’s offensive explosion was Brody Vanderlinde with two goals and four assists. Dylan Griffin added a goal and an assist, Trevor Fowler tallied a goal and Nate Sullivan had three assists.

The Rockets will face Mona Shores in a regional showdown Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Lakeshore Sports Centre.
