The Muskegon Catholic Central boys basketball team captured its sixth consecutive Class D district championship with a 75-50 victory over Ellington Academy of Arts and Technology on Friday night.

LSJ Logo incertThe Crusades cruised through districts, winning their three their games by 44, 22 and 25 points, respectively.

After holding a modest 10 point lead at halftime, MCC blew the game open with a 22-8 advantage in the third quarter.

Nick Morgenstern was a major factor for the Crusaders, posting 20 points, 10 rebounds and four assists. Coach Lamar Jordan was well aware of Morgenstern’s impact.

“Nick had a really good game,” Jordan said. “He started early with two three’s in the first quarter and made all his free throws.”

Christian Martinez chipped in 13 points, six rebounds and five assists for the Crusaders.

MCC will play Big Rapids Crossroads Academy in the Class D regional semifinals on Monday at Sacred Heart Academy in Mount Pleasant.
