Former Big Red prep star Deshaun Thrower facing criminal charges in New York

NEW YORK – Former Muskegon High School star athlete Deshaun Thrower, a member of the Stony Brook University basketball team in New York, faces criminal charges after allegedly breaking into a fellow student’s car LSJ Logo incertlast week and stealing $5,000 in tax refund money, according to a report from the Associated Press.

Thrower faces charges of third-degree grand larceny and third-degree criminal mischief. Another member of the Stony Brook basketball team, Rayshau McGrew, was also accused of participating in the alleged crime and faces identical charges, the news report said.thrower feature

“McGrew and Thrower (allegedly) used a stone to break the window of 23-year-old Queens, New York, resident Jevreel Miller’s vehicle,” said the AP story, which was attributed to a report published by the New York Post. “Miller had just cashed his tax-refund check at the time of the theft and has yet to recoup this considerable sum.

“Miller was able to chase the players on foot before calling campus police, riding around in a patrol car and subsequently identifying McGrew, who told police Thrower was involved once he was caught.”

Thrower won the 2014 Mr. Basketball Award as the top senior high school basketball player in Michigan.

Thrower and McGrew played on a Stony Brook team that won the America East Conference regular season and tournament titles this season. The Seawolves earned a berth in the NCAA tournament and were eliminated by Kentucky in the first round.
