Lumberjacks forward Charlie Gerard returned to Madison for the first time since joining Muskegon in a trade with the Capitols in February.
Gerard impressed his former teammates, scoring four goals as the Lumberjacks pounded the Madison Capitols 7-1 on Friday night at the Alliant Energy Center.
The Lumberjacks will close out the weekend Saturday night in a rematch in Madison.
Muskegon is now 26-24-7 on the season, good for 59 points and sixth place in the USHL’s Eastern Conference standings with three games remaining.
The Jacks jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first period on two goals from Gerard and a tally from league-leading scorer Rem Pitlick.
Matej Paulovic added to Muskegon’s lead with an early second period goal to give the Lumberjacks a 4-0 lead.
The Capitols responded with their lone goal of the night by Marcel Godbout at the 5:05 mark of the second period.
Gerard completed the hat trick for the Lumberjacks 11:07 into the second period to give Muskegon a 5-1 lead heading into the final stanza.
Muskegon closed out the game with two third period goals from Collin Adams at the 11:04 mark and Gerard at 13:56 into the final stanza.
Joey Daccord picked up the win in net for the Lumberjacks, stopping 27 of 28 shots.
