The Rockets beat a good Mona Shore squad, their crosstown rival.

They used a three-goal hat trick from sophomore Haley Ruiter to claim a 5-1 victory over the Sailors on their home field.

Reeths-Puffer improved to 5-1-3 on the season and 2-0 in the O-K Black Conference.

“It feels really good,” said Reeths-Puffer Coach Jeremy Tjapkes. “Even though it was a 5-1 game Mona Shores played really well. They just came out on the short end of the goals. Our defense really stood up tonight. It has played outstanding all year.”

The Rockets opened the scoring just 20 seconds into the game with a goal by Brianna Bush, assisted by Ruiter.

They took a 2-0 lead on a goal by Jayme Brantsen, with an assist from Lexi Bolles.

Reagan Cox scored Mona Shores’ only goal later in the first half, making the score 2-1.

But the Rockets answered 45 seconds later with Ruiter’s first goal. Bolles got her second assist on the play.

Reeths-Puffer added two more goals in the second half – both by Ruiter – to ice the victory. Abby Sykes has an assist on the first goal of the half while Jenna Stolzman had an assist on the second.

The Rockets outshot the Sailors 11-8. Goalie Elysia Mattos collected the victory.

Tjapkes credited defenders Sykes, Lauren Jones, Trenda Loss and Amber Blaski for their strong play in the victory.
