The Jayhawks demonstrated that by giving the Stars all they could handle in a Wednesday doubleheader. Unfortunately the Jayhawks came out on the short end of both close games, 5-4 and 2-1.

The Jayhawks fell to 23-7 overall and 9-3 in the Western Conference of the Michigan Community College Athletic Association. They are a game behind Lansing CC, which is 8-0 in the conference.

The Stars won the opener with a walk-off seventh inning homer by Madison Adams, breaking a 4-4 tie.

The Jayhawks took the lead by scoring four runs in the third inning. But Lansing tied the game with two runs in the third and sixth inning, respectively, to set up the winning homer.

MCC pitcher Morgan Engelsman took the loss, despite striking out 13. Morgan Giddings led the offense with two hits while Bri Mairose added one hit and two RBIs.

In Game 2, Adams victimized the Jayhawks again with a first-inning homer that gave the Stars the lead for good.

MCC pitcher Katie Hendrickson took the loss, despite throwing a complete game three-hitter with five strikeouts and only two walks.

Giddings had two hits for MCC while Hendrickson had one hit – a solo homer – to provide the Jayhawks’ only run.
