A late-inning miscue dealt the West Michigan Whitecaps a 2-1 loss to the Quad Cities River Bandits Friday night at Modern Woodmen Ballpark in Davenport, Iowa.LSJ Logo incert

The Whitecaps and River Bandits played to a 1-1 tie heading into the bottom of the eighth inning. After a leadoff single by Quad Cities outfielder Kyle Tucker, third baseman Connor Goedert lined a base hit into left field. The ball was misplayed by ‘Caps outfielder Cam Gibson and bounded past him, resulting in an error which scored Tucker from first base with the game-winning run.

Quad Cites reliever Sabastian Kessay (1-2) tossed three scoreless innings to earn the victory in the contest, while West Michigan pitcher Toller Boardman (1-3) took a tough-luck loss for allowing an unearned run in three innings.

First baseman Will Allen led the Whitecaps at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI in the contest.

The Whitecaps fall to 10-11, while the River Bandits improve to 10-12. Quad Cites has won eight of its last 11 games.
