Detroit sports glance: Max Scherzer strikes out 20 in Nationals win over Tigers

Nationals 3, Tigers 2 – Former Tiger pitcher Max Scherzer struck out 20 Detroit batters to lead the Washington Nationals over the Tigers on Wednesday night.

LSJ Logo incertScherzer allowed two runs on six hits in a complete game effort for the Nationals.

Washington’s Daniel Murphy doubled and knocked in two runs while Danny Espinosa added a solo home run.

The Tigers were led by J.D. Martinez and Jose Iglesias with a home run each while Justin Upton had a double.

The Tigers are now 15-18 on the season, good for fourth place in the American League Central Division behind the Chicago White Sox.

Detroit will open a four-game series with the Baltimore Orioles starting on Thursday night.
