Athletics 4, Tigers 2– The Oakland Athletics overcame a two-run deficit to defeat the Tigers on Sunday afternoon.
Detroit led 2-0 on single runs in both the third and fourth inning, the A’s responded with three unearned runs in the sixth and added an insurance run in the eighth.
Oakland was led by Danny Valencia with three hits and two runs scored while Billy Butler hit a pinch hit two-run single.
The Tigers scored their runs on RBI singles by James McCann and Victor Martinez.
Victor Martinez had three of Detroit’s five hits
Detroit’s starting pitcher Mike Pelfrey took the loss despite not allowing an earned run. He allowed six hits in 5 2/3 innings while striking out three batters.
The Tigers are now 24-25 on the season, good for fourth place in the American League Central Division behind the Kansas City Royals.
Detroit will open a three-game set with the Los Angeles Angels starting on Monday night.
