One night after coughing up an early lead and losing an O-K Red Conference showdown, the Grand Haven varsity softball team reversed their fortunes on Thursday. lsj-fb-logo

The Bucs trailed host West Ottawa 3-0 after five innings, but Grand Haven’s bats exploded in the sixth, connecting for seven of their 13 hits and scoring five runs.

The Bucs then shut down the Panthers in the sixth and seventh innings to secure the 5-3 victory.

Grand Haven improves to 23-6 overall this season, and the Bucs’ 10-5 O-K Red Conference record clinches second place behind league champion Grandville.

The Bucs’ big blast in the sixth came from Yogi Hang, who connected on a two-run triple. She later scored on a RBI single from Kaylee Hartwell.

Hang also pitched two innings of scoreless relief to earn the save behind winning pitcher Kylie Masko.

Jordan Buckingham led the Bucs with four hits, including two doubles. d hae and Hang tallied two hits apiece.
