Kent City’s varsity baseball team slugged their way to a doubleheader sweep of Hesperia on Tuesday, 10-6 and 9-8, keeping the Eagles undefeated in the Central State Activities Association’s Silver Division at 12-0.
Kent City is 12-2 overall.
In the opener, Kent City surged to a commanding lead early thanks to a six-run second inning. Luke Scheuneman led the offense by going 3-for-4 including a grand slam in the second. He totaled five RBIs.
Skylour Campbell, Colton Atwood, Quinn Koomen and Luke O’Keefe also added RBIs for the Eagles. Cody Bowers was the winning pitcher, as he struck out six and walked seven in six innings of work.
In Game 2, Kent City barely held off Hesperia, as the Panthers scored four runs in the seventh to make things interesting, but couldn’t complete the comeback.
Scheuneman again tallied three hits and also scored two runs. Austin Ford and Campbell each went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Koomen picked up the win in relief, as he allowed three hits and fanned a pair in two innings.
