Playing on their home field in summer-like heat and humidity, the Ludington girls soccer team was able to defeat Whitehall in the teams’ Division 3 district opener on Tuesday, 3-1.
The Orioles, 12-6-1, now advance to Thursday’s semifinal against the winner of Reed City and Big Rapids.
The contest was tied 1-1 at the half, but the Orioles thrived in the second half with two goals. Ludington’s offensive balance was on display with three different goal scorers – Ali Plamondon, Bethany Shay and Marissa Hansen. They also had three different players record assists – Shay, Makenzie Condit and Hannah Peterson.
Hanna Evans scored Whitehall’s lone goal, with an assist from Lauren Baustert.
Ludington goalie Allison Janowiak had seven saves to earn the win.
