The Muskegon Risers got off to a slow start to their 2016 season with a 5-1 loss on the road to Detroit City FC on Saturday.
Detroit opened the scoring 10 minutes into the game, then Muskegon’s Daniel Luzindya tied the score with a goal at the 41-minute mark.
The Risers were called for a handball in their own box late in the first half, giving Detroit a penalty kick and subsequent goal that made the score 2-1 at halftime.
DCFC scored three more times in the second half to secure the victory. The Risers had several scoring opportunities but failed to convert.
The Risers will continue their season-opening three-game road trip with a game against Grand Rapids FC Saturday at 7:45 p.m. at Houseman Field.
Muskegon will visit Oakland County FC on May 21 before playing their home opener on May 28 against CKS Warta at 6 p.m. at Reeths-Puffer High School.
