The Spring Lake softball team kept its unbeaten record intact on Thursday, downing Orchard View 2-0 and 11-1 in a Lakes 8 Conference doubleheader.
The Lakers are now 18-0 overall and 10-0 in the conference.
Spring Lake’s Lauren Somers and Orchard View’s Bre Weck were both excellent on the mound in the opener. Somers struck out seven and allowed no runs while Weck struck out six and took the tough-luck loss.
Madelyn Nelson had an inside-the-park home run for the Lakers while Katie Mumby added an RBI single.
Game 2 was more of an offensive showing for Spring Lake, which scored seven runs in the first inning. Jenna Core blasted a two-run homer and Kileah Rymal added three hits.
Nelson pitched the win, throwing four innings and striking out seven.
