There was no shortage of offense in Thursday’s West Michigan All-State Classic softball game at Muskegon Community College.LSJ Logo incert

The game featured many of the top high school players from the area. Coaching the Gold team were North Muskegon’s Larry Witham and Reeths-Puffer’s Trista Single. Coaching the Blue team were Montague’s Doug Rice and Holton’s Kirk Younts.

The Gold team rallied from an 8-1 deficit after two innings to capture a 16-13 victory.

Top performers for the Gold team were Taylor Schmitt of Folwer and Machenzie Quinn of Mona Shores, who had three hits apiece.

Ravenna’s Madi Broton, North Muskegon’s Megan Massey, Byron Center’s Lexi Grondman, Alma’s Taylor Kinucen and Spring Lake’s Katie Mumby each had two hits.

Leading the Blue team were Montague’s Chase Jancek, who was 4-for-4 with three stolen bases and Whitehall’s Melissa Shoup, who was 3-for-4.

Alessa Buchner of Oakridge, Brandi Rice of Montague and Morgan Hill of Grand Haven each had two hits.
