Yankees 4, Tigers 0 – The New York Yankees blanked the Tigers in the weekend series opener on Friday night.

New York’s starting pitcher CC Sabathia picked up the shutout win, tossing seven scoreless innings while allowing five hits.

The Yankees were paced by Didi Gregorius with double and two RBIs while Carlos Beltran and Brian McCann each added an RBI.

J.D. Martinez paced Detroit with two hits while starting pitcher Mike Pelfrey tossed the loss, allowing three earned runs on six hits in 6 2/3 innings.Eye on the D

The Tigers are now 30-30 on the season, good for third place in the American League Central Division behind the first-place Cleveland Indians.

Detroit will look to even the series against the Yankees with a win on Saturday night.
