The Fremont baseball team captured its first Div. 2 district title in 26 years in a dramatic 9-8 win over Big Rapids on Saturday.

The Packers erased a 5-0 first inning deficit and scored six runs in the sixth inning and two more in the seventh to secure the comeback win. lsj-fb-logo

“(Our) boys didn’t give up. They played through a battle,” Fremont coach Jeff Foster said. “(I’m) so excited and proud for Fremont baseball.”
Fremont pitcher Connor Cook got the win recording the final three outs of the game. Cook also had a pair of hits and an RBI. Tyler Zimmerman had three hits and an RBI while Tim MacKay drove in two runs.

In the semifinal game, Nathan Hoffman pitched a complete game and had 10 strikeouts while collecting two hits at the plate. Cook added three RBIs for Fremont.
The Packers advance to regionals on Saturday, June 11 and will face Escanba.
