The Grand Haven softball team’s season came to a heartbreaking end on Saturday with a 1-0 loss to Byron Center in Division 1 regional semifinal action at Hudsonville High School.
The game went to extra innings. Byron Center scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth with a run-scoring single.
Yogi Hang pitched a great game for Grand haven, scattering five hits, striking out four and walking two over 7 2/3 innings.
Grand Haven only managed three hits in the game and only advanced two runners as far as second base.
The Bucs, who finished second in the O-K Red Conference this season, closed with a 29-8 record.
“The girls worked hard this week with long practices in the heat,” said Grand Haven Coach Paul Masko. “We would have liked for it to end differently but it didn’t turn out that way. We broke the school record for wins for the second year in a row, so kudos to the girls for their desire to win.”
