The Cougars countered with eight unanswered runs over the span of the next five innings. After single tallies in the third and fourth innings, the Cougars blew the game open with a four-run seventh, highlighted by RBI doubles from Colin Bray and Gerard Hernandez to give Kane County a 6-2 lead.

In the eighth, the Cougars scored two more on a two-run double by Hernandez to end the scoring in the contest.

Pitcher Beau Burrows got the start for West Michigan in place of the originally scheduled Fernando Perez. The 2015 first-round draft choice tossed five innings, allowing two runs before departing the contest. Reliever Logan Longwith (0-1) allowed four runs in 1.1 innings to take his first loss of the year.

Rashad Brown led the Whitecaps on offense by going 2-for-3 with a walk.

The Whitecaps will continue their road trip with a three-game set against the Clinton LumberKings Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.
