The West Michigan Whitecaps scored all of their runs in the second and third innings Thursday to pick up their second straight victory, a 6-4 win over Peoria at Fifth Third BallparkLSJ Logo incert in Comstock Park.

The win improves West Michigan to 51-41 overall on the season whitecaps logo not for feature artand 12-13 in the second half. The Whitecaps are 5 ½ games behind Bowling Green in the Midwest League Eastern Division second half standings.

Franklin Navarro started the scoring for West Michigan in the second inning when he brought Leonardo Laffita home on an RBI single. Navarro later scored on a Derek Hill RBI single that gave the Whitecaps a 2-0 lead.

In the third inning, Will Maddox scored on a Will Allen double to give West Michigan a 3-0 lead. Allen came around to score on the next at-bat when Brett Pirtle singled to right field.

Pirtle scored when Jose Azocar hit an RBI triple. Azocar scored on a Navarro single to give West Michigan a 6-0 lead that proved to be enough to secure the win.

Pirtle led all West Michigan hitters with three hits while Navarro and Maddox added two apiece. The Whitecaps finished with 12 hits while going 4-for-9 with runners in scoring position.

Starting pitcher Eudis Idrogo picked up the win while allowing three runs on seven hits while Ryan Milton picked up his second save of the season.

The Whitecaps will try to complete the sweep when they finish their series with Peoria on Friday at 7 p.m. at home.
