Mariners 3, Tigers 0 – Seattle Mariners’ starting pitcher Hisashi Iwakuma tossed seven scoreless innings to pace his team over the Tigers late Monday night.

LSJ Logo incertIwakuma allowed five hits while striking out eight Detroit batters while the rest of the Mariner bullpen complete the shut out effort.

The Mariners opened the scoring with two runs in the second inning to take a 2-0 lead and added a run in the eighth.

Seattle was led offensively by Nelson Cruz with two hits, including a double, while Kyle Seager, Guillermo Heredia and Mike Zunino each knocked in a run.Eye on the D

Detroit’s starting pitcher Michael Fulmer took the loss, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out six batters in seven innings.

The Tigers are now 61-51 on the season, good for second place in the American League Central Division behind the first-place Cleveland Indians. They are tied with the Boston Red Sox for the final playoff spot.

Detroit will look to snap its two-game losing streak with a win on Tuesday night against the Mariners.
