Tigers 3, White Sox 2 – Tyler Collins hit a pinch hit walk-off sacrifice fly in the ninth inning to help the Tigers complete the sweep against the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday afternoon.

The White Sox opened the scoring with back-to-back solo homers by Jose Abreu and former Tiger Alex Avila to take a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning.

Detroit cut its deficit to 2-1 with an RBI single by Andrew Romine in the fifth frame, the tied the game at 2-2 in the eighth on a single by J.D. Martinez.

Jones opened the ninth with a double, advanced to third on a deep fly out to right field from Jarrod Saltalamacchia and scored on a shallow fly out to left by Collins.Eye on the D

Ian Kinsler and Jones each paced Detroit with a pair of hits.

The Tigers’ starting pitcher Justin Verlander took a no-decision, allowing two runs on three hits while striking out nine batters in seven innings.

Detroit’s closer Francisco Rodriguez picked up the win after tossing a scoreless ninth inning.

The Tigers are now 72-61 on the season, good for second place in the American League Central Division behind the Cleveland Indians. They are tied with the Baltimore Orioles for the final playoff spot.

Detroit will head back on the road starting on Friday night to take on the Kansas City Royals.
