Tigers 10, Red Sox 5 – Justin Upton blasted two home runs and knocked in six runs to propel the Tigers over the Boston Red Sox on Sunday afternoon.

LSJ Logo incertThe Tigers, who lost both on Friday and Saturday, took a split in the four-game set with the Red Sox.

Detroit jumped out to an 8-0 lead with five runs in the third inning and three in the fifth.

Boston cut its deficit to 8-1 with a run in the sixth before the Tigers added two in the bottom of the sixth to take a 10-1 advantage.

The Red Sox closed out the scoring with four runs in the seventh inning.

Detroit’s starting pitcher Justin Verlander posted his 13th win of the season, allowing one run on three hits while striking out five batters in six innings.

The Tigers are now 65-59 on the season, good for second place in the American League Central Division behind the Cleveland Indians. They are three games back of the Baltimore Orioles for the final playoff spot.

Detroit will head out on the road for a three-game series with the Minnesota Twins starting on Tuesday night.
