The West Michigan Whitecaps continued their recent skid with a 3-1 loss to the Lake County Captains on Thursday night in Ohio.
The Whitecaps have lost five games in a row and nine of their last 10.
West Michigan scored its only run in the first inning, when Will Allen plated Will Maddox with a groundout to take a 1-0 lead. The Captains scored their runs in the first, seventh and eighth innings.
The Whitecaps brought the potential go-ahead run to the plate in the ninth, but failed to push across any runs.
Whitecaps starter Fernando Perez (3-7) took his seventh loss after allowing two of the three Captains runs in 6 1/3 inning while walking three and retiring six hitters via strikeout.
West Michigan to 61-57 overall and 22-29 in the second half. Arvicent Perez led the team by going 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles in a losing cause.
The Whitecaps return home for a three-game series against the Dayton Dragons from Fifth Third Ballpark beginning Friday night at 7:00p.m.
