Grand Haven’s varsity volleyball team toppled Grandville and East Kentwood during a league tri-meet on Wednesday to cement a second-place finish in the final O-K Red Conference standings.

The Bucs defeated the Falcons in straight sets (25-8, 25-18 and 25-17) and took 2-of-3 from the Bulldogs (25-17, 25-33, 25-22).

Grand Haven finishes with a 9-3 conference record and improves to 45-9 overall. The Bucs trail only Rockford in the O-K Red standings. 

Grand Haven coach Aaron Smaka commended the strong play of Morgan Ross, Sophia Newhouse and Avolyn Lepo during the pair of wins. Ross led the Bucs with 21 kills and also added eight digs.

Defensive specialist Newhouse led the Bucs with 33 digs, and Lepo was strong at the net with eight kills and six total blocks.

Olivia Boeve had a strong serving night for the Bucs with five aces. She also contributed 20 kills and seven digs.
