Win No. 40 was a special milestone for the Kent City varsity volleyball team Wednesday evening.
The Eagles’ three-set sweep of Hesperia clinched the Central State Activities Association championship and a perfect league record at 10-0.
Kent City won by scores of 25-20, 25-12 and 25-12.
The “Killer Ks” of Kassidy Heeringa, Kaitlyn Geers and Kelsey Krueger paced the Eagles’ attack at the net with seven, five and four kills, respectively.
Blaire Mortensen tallied 10 assists, while Krueger led the way with 14 digs, followed by 12 from Meghan Boyd.
For Hesperia, Alyssa Miller led the offense with seven kills and an ace. Setter Ceara Thomas totaled 15 digs and Miller added 14. Thomas had 16 assists on the night.
Kent City, which is ranked No. 4 in the Class C state standings, improves to 40-5-1 overall.
