The Muskegon Catholic Central football team traveled to Detroit to take on Division 3 Redford Union on Friday night.
The Crusaders made sure the bus ride home was a happy one with a 48-13 victory over the Panthers that concluded a perfect 9-0 regular season for MCC.
Muskegon Catholic opened the game with a defensive touchdown by Mason Convertini, who scooped up a Redford Union fumble and ran it back 39 yards for a score.
As it has in seemingly every game this season, MCC distanced itself from the opposition with a huge second quarter.
Senior running back Logan Helton scored from four yards out to give the Crusaders a 14-0 lead. Then senior tailback Walker Christoffersen took over. The talented playmaker caught a 54-yard pass from freshman quarterback Cameron Martinez, and added scoring runs of six and three yards to push the MCC lead to 35-0 at halftime.
Helton added a 51-yard scoring scamper in the third quarter, and freshman tailback Tommy Watts had a 51-yard touchdown run, to finish out the scoring for the Crusaders.
Muskegon Catholic finished the regular season 9-0 for the second time under head coach Steve Czerwon. The 2014 squad that accomplished that feat finished the season as the Division 8 state champion.
