Red Wings 3, Flyers 2 (SO) – Andreas Athanasiou’s shootout goal propelled the Red Wings to their first win on the road against the Philadelphia Flyers since the January of 1997.

The Red Wings, who are now 7-6-1 on the season, are currently tied for second place in the Atlantic Division.

The Flyers opened the scoring with a goal from Claude Giroux at the 6:28 mark of the first period.

Detroit tied the game 1-1 with a Tomas Tatar goal 8:42 into the first period.

Philadelphia regained its lead at 2-1 at the 6:51 mark of the third period on a goal from Sean Couturier.

The Red Wings retied the game 2-2 on an Athanasiou goal with just under nine minutes left in regulation.

Detroit Athanasiou scored the lone shootout goal during the third and final round.

Jimmy Howard picked up the win in net for Detroit, stopping 23 of 25 Philadelphia shots.

The Red Wings will return home to face a struggling Vancouver Canucks team on Thursday night.
