The Muskegon Community College men’s basketball team, with features a lot of new faces this year, gotLSJ Logo incert off to a good start with a 94-77 opening-night victory over the Grand Bible College JV on Monday.

The Jayhawks struggled early and trailed by as many as eight points, but rallied to take a 43-39 halftime lead. They pulled away in the second half.

“We struggled in the first half and I think our guys were a little surprised by how hard and physical they played,” said MCC Coach Dave Schlump. “But I was happy with the way we responded. It’s a good sign for our team moving forward.”

Daryl Kirkland had a game-high 29 points for the Jayhawks. Sergio Diaz added 21 points with six triples, while Blake Andrews added 16 points with five three-pointers.
