The Muskegon Lumberjacks have been winning a lot of games lately, but the Sioux City Musketeers have been on an absolute tear.
The Jacks were unable to slow down the Musketeers on Friday night, falling behind early and dropping a 4-1 decision at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
Sioux City, the first-place team in the USHL’s Western Conference, won its eighth straight game and is now 9-1 in its last 10 games.
The Lumberjacks, second in the Eastern Conference, had their three-game winning streak snapped. They are now 11-6 overall and four points behind first-place Chicago in the conference race.
The two teams will have a rematch in Sioux City on Saturday at 8:05 p.m. EST.
The Musketeers jumped on the Lumberjacks early with three first-period goals, from Marcel Godout (2:32) and Kristian Pospisil, who scored at the both 5:32 and 18:02.
Muskegon pulled goalie Adam Brizgala after the second goal, in favor of Keith Petruzzelli, who finished the game for the Jacks.
Andrei Svechnikov scored the Lumberjacks’ lone goal on a power play at 3:48 of the second period, with assists from Bo Hanson and Copper Zech.
Phillip Knies finished the scoring for Sioux City with an open-net goal at 19:41 of the third period.
Svechnikov was given a double major and ejected from the game in the third period for checking from behind.
