The Shelby volleyball team is on a roll.

The Tigers won their first regional championship since 1998 with a straight-set victory over MorleyLSJ Logo incert-Stanwood on Thursday in the Class C finals at Beal City High School.

The set scores in the match were 26-24, 25-17 and 25-17.

Shelby, now 39-11-2, advances to play Brown City on Tuesday in the state quarterfinals at Saginaw Nouvel High School.

The Tigers got off to a slow start, falling behind 9-2 early in the first set and 24-20 later on, before scoring the last six points to steal the victory.

They had a much easier time winning the second and third sets.

“That kind of set the tone,” said Shelby Coach Tom Weirich, regarding his team’s rally in the opening set. “We came out in the second set and jumped on them right away.”

McKenna Peters paced Shelby with 21 kills and 23 digs. Kasey Morse added 43 assists and four service aces while Jaren Smith had 17 kills and four aces.

Tori Mussel led the Tigers with three blocks.
