The Lake Hawks outscored the Cowboys 56-53 in the second half to hold on for an opening night victory.
“These guys played extremely well and jelled as a unit tonight,” said West Michigan head coach Ron Jenkins. “Opening night was exciting. it was good to come out with a win in the first home game.”
Terry Walker Jr. – one of three returnees from last year’s team – had 21 points for West Michigan, while Deontae Hudson added 16.
The Lake Hawks will travel to play a new team in the league – Detroit Fast Forward – on Saturday, Nov. 19, before returning home the next day to host Team Network.
“I’m looking for these guys to take care of their bodies and just get back into the gym,” said Jenkins, about the 13-day layoff for his team. “We’ll just keep working on our craft.”
